Oklahoma Nursing Schools and Programs
Oklahoma is full of adventure and unique character that keeps everyone interested. Known as "Sooner" country, this is a state of many creations, for instance; the first Boy Scout troop, the highest hill, the first rolling supermarket cart, and the first parking meter. Oklahoma has four beautiful mountain ranges and thousands of miles of lake shorelines. Oklahoma has deep roots to Native American history, with 39 tribes headquartered here, and is part of the Trail of Tears journey. Oklahoma has something for everyone who chooses to reside here for their nursing program.
Oklahoma has several nursing programs to help prospective students obtain their degree. Oklahoma faces the nursing shortage especially in the rural areas where the population has a strong need for nurses in nutrition, counseling, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, pre-natal care and other fields. Oklahoma is determined to help nursing students and registered nurses continue their education in hopes to increase the nursing faculty staff so they can accept more nursing students in programs. The options Oklahoma provides prospective nursing students to earn a joint degree, BSN, MSN, associate degree or diplomas for LPN and/or RN in a wide variety of environments. One program to note is The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City because it is the only program in this state that offers a doctoral degree. They also offer a BSN and an MSN in over fifteen specialty areas including acute care, gerontology, neonatal and pediatric nurse practice. Also, for rural areas, online schools make it practical for registered nurses to advance their career and education without leaving their community.
